The shingle beach at L'Eree is not very easy to walk on and it can be avoided
by walking on an easy path that lies between the beach and the road. You
may want to explore the grassy fringes of the beach as the
whole area here is a nature reserve containing a wealth of interesting
plant life. Look out for the path on the right hand side of the road about
five minutes into the walk, this path leads to the Le Trepied Dolmen which
according to an information board was the meeting place for the local
witches a couple of centuries ago. Back on the main path, which by this
time is along the main road, you arrive at the little village of Perelle
Bay, here make another detour to the charming little St Apolline's Chapel. If there is no service going on when you visit, be sure to take a look
at the 14th century fresco on the ceiling depicting the last supper. A section
of easy walking that took us along the beaches of Vazon and Cobo bay with
a visit to Fort Hommet on route, allowed us the time to take a attractive
nature trail that begins next to the playing fields in Cobo Village and
winds it's way up through a Glen to Saumarez park, which is well worth
a visit for it's Folk Museum alone. Back
on the firm sandy beaches of Saline and Portinfer bay good time is made
to reach Rousse Tower the finishing point for today's walk.
