Le Gouffre to Lihou part 2

The causeway to Lihou can only be crossed when the tide is out and the stones can be very slippy if recently uncovered. Once over and on to the Island take the path leading of to the west to make a clockwise journey around the Island returning to your starting point in about 30 minutes. The main point of interest apart from the excellent views is the 12th century priory of St Mary which is still being excavated, make sure that you have allowed sufficient time to cross back to the mainland before the tide comes back in. Now walk back down the road passed the Napoleonic tower with a German lookout tower built on the top to reach the beach at Fort Saumarez.
